[Bonus] Girl Group Rapper Power Rankings V: Spring 2018 (#30-#21)

They're back! Girl Group Rapper Power Rankings returns as we hit the end of April. Once more the main focuses are: ability, material, and consistency. Good rappers who haven't released music in a while will be punished, decent rappers with decent releases will be rewarded. There's no purely mathematical way to evaluate these rappers but this is all fun writing anyway. From last year's list we say goodbye to Yulhee, Dahye, Junyeol, and Serri. Taking their place are three newcomers: Pristin's Rena, gugudan's Mina, and Weki Meki's Yoojung. This gives us an exact 30 rappers (technically last iteration had 30 too but that's because I forgot about Hyoyeon...) to work with. Let's see who is in what tier. Also, sorry but I got lazy with images this time. They'll only show four out of the ten rappers in each set. That adds some mystery to things I guess?
#30. Mina (--)
Bottom tier starts with #30 and ends at #25. Shared traits between these rappers are that they're unimpressive overall, and or don't have much to show yet. They also have other members of their groups participate in rapping, leaving a rapping line that is extremely weak. This takes away more of their chances. Mina follows Junyeol and takes up last place upon her debut. "A Girl Like Me" was alright but besides that she has very little to analyze. Their best song to date "The Boots" doesn't have a rap, whether that's thanks to the lack of rapping remains to be seen.

#29. Jinsoul (-2)
Jinsoul suffers because three of the four departing members were ranked below her, and thus she falls to #29. She has demonstrated pretty good ability and potential, and among the plethora of Loona material her song(s) and appearances have made the biggest impression. Her feature in "Egoist" solidifies her as the primary rapper within Loona, and we'll see what their official debut has in store for her.

#28. Rena (--)
Out of everyone in bottom tier, I think Rena has the most potential (with Chaeyoung close behind). Her voice is the best in this group although she has received some mediocre raps ("Black Widow" and "We Like" were underwhelming). The biggest obstacle for Rena is how to stop her groupmates from munching away all her lines. Seriously she has the worst case of shared rapping I've ever seen. Kyla, Nayoung, Xiyeohn, and even Kyulkyung have taken moments of lines that should be Rena's. Sure some of them are very minuscule but that piles up.

#27. Dahyun (+2)
With the last couple of Twice songs, Dahyun has closed the gap between herself and Chaeyoung. It's a mixture of her improving her rapping and getting better raps to begin with. "Likey" is a great example of that. She's gotten more comfortable with faster rapping speeds, and her voice doesn't suffer as much from the higher range. If Twice were to continue in this area of notes I'd rather you give Dahyun the full raps and leave Chaeyoung to her own devices singing.

#26. Chaeyoung (--)
Dahyun has turned things around but Chaeyoung hasn't been doing horribly for herself either. While they normally go back and forth in their rapping, "What Is Love?" (finally) had them go individually. Again she loses out using her higher range, since her lower voice is better and frankly needs to be used more if she wants to climb up the ladder. Chaeng's got that potential in her, but it remains to be seen if that can be realized with Twice.

#25. Irene (--)
Last of bottom tier, and back after a brief stint in low tier is Red Velvet's Irene. Although her group has been skyrocketing, she hasn't had the best opportunities to shine. "Bad Boy" omitted a rap section entirely, and like others on this list, she has had to share rapping responsibilities. "Peek-A-Boo" left her in a disappointing secondary role to Yeri, who received one of the group's best raps. Everyone in this tier has a chance to rise up but that really depends on how the dynamics between them and other rappers change.

#24. Hana (-1)
The six members of low tier are simply the rappers that are past their prime. They were solid back in their heyday but now their respective group is on the verge of collapse, and the new youth have taken over. It's not enough to drop them straight to the bottom, but yeah. This ordering is 90% based on how likely it is for them to return with new music whether individually or otherwise. Hana is therefore ranked the lowest because Secret is done and any future will be as a soloist. The only thing keeping her from being off the list is because of her history, the eligibility rule, and because keeping her leaves the complete list at 30 rappers.

#23. Hyeran (-5)
Like Hana, Hyeran has a very low chance of making a return. Brave Girls have been quiet since "Rollin'" outside of a few members appearing on The Unit, and Hyeran's hiatus is basically indefinite. As the low tier rappers are based on who could come back, Hyeran avoids being at the bottom of this range only because of Hana and Secret's shenanigans. In the event she does come back, she could easily fight her way back to the top. She's the most liable to huge changes in rank only if she ever promotes with Brave Girls again.

#22. Hyomin (--)
T-ARA is in limbo. They've lost members prior to their latest release and as far as I know still need a new label. Obviously there's nothing new to talk about for Hyomin. She was a consistent, respectable rapper back during the good ol' days but their future is very unclear. If they are not quitting, hopefully they can become like Highlight by finding a new home and a new name. Otherwise, Hyomin and her legacy will remain here.

#21. Amber (--)
Amber is the first of low tier to have actually released new music since the last ranking. Unfortunately for the purposes of this list, none of it had any rapping. She had a "Rogue Rouge" mixtape that had zero rapping tracks. That's not a mixtape hon, that's an EP. At least she's still active in the industry, or has actual news surrounding her haha. Despite Luna saying that "she will return with f(x)," I have no faith until S.M releases information or teasers about them.
