[Misc] Best Of Voices

Being busy and some creativity block has prevented me from going through the K.A.R.D review and something else planned to couple with it (sort of). So today I'm going to talk about my favorite voices in Kpop. As I strive for some more balance between boy and girl groups, I've selected ten members with quality voices (and not all of them are girl group members or the like). Now this isn't people with the strongest voice, or the best rapping voice - that would just be relegated for Power Ranking writing. These are the voices that I simply love listening to, for one reason or another. Usually the "Best Of" series is tagged under bonus material but I felt this was more in line with the miscellaneous stuff than anything else. Anyway let's dive in.

I.M
Deep voices are too cliche. But at the same time, they can be that charming. I didn't want to just go with someone like Yongguk or T.O.P. Instead I turned my attention to a relative unknown but one that made good first impressions from debut. Monsta X's I.M has a strong voice that's easily reflected in his rapping. He and Jooheon make a good 1-2 rapping punch for their group, though I think he needs to be utilized more. Even in repetitive lyrics like "Feedback," he was / sounded good. Not many people can do that.

Junsu
This is a throwback selection. I've not paid close attention to Junsu and 2PM for a long time, but Junsu is a spectacular vocalist that probably deserves more credit. They were one of the pioneer groups for me, and since debut Junsu has shown a propensity for great performances. Whether working within the group or by himself, he's got a unique sound that sounds perfect in R&B music. Come to think of it, I believe he had some new solo material recently. It's probably high time I check that out.

[Blog] The Argument For Subunits

Yeah, I know. Two consecutive blog posts, especially given the duration between posts is certainly unexciting. Even more dull (or annoying, depending on your perspective) is that I'm going to be talking about subunits again. The last time around I devised some subunits for girl groups I'd like to see, and that happened not too long ago. Do I feel cheap for doing so? Yes, but at the same time it's been busy busy busy for me (not to mention this is only the 7th overall blog post of this season) and this will be refreshing in some way. Upon closer inspection, I last wrote about subunits in November so it's not too bad.

[Blog] Wonder Girls & SPICA Bow Out

Welp. For once, delaying a post has some benefits. Originally I was going to write out my woes for the disbanding of Wonder Girls, but now with SPICA joining them I have more material, sort of. KARA was the first true girl group "titan" to fall, and now Wonder Girls joins them next. Even though the band concept gave them extra juice for another two promotion cycles, they'll call it quits after "Why So Lonely." Yubin and Hyelim will remain under JYP, while Yeeun and Sunmi are off to greener pastures. It's really unfortunate because not only were they enjoying success off the "Why So Lonely" mini, but they really had some momentum moving forward. Anyway, I'm curious to see what will come from Yubin and Hyelim remaining under JYP. Hopefully a Yubin solo is in the works, because that sounds amazing. As for Sunmi and Yeeun, both members have previously established themselves as capable soloists during their down years so I'm also excited to see what's in the store for them. Ideally neither will stray from the music path, and I don't think they'd be the ones to do so anyway. Looks like I won't be getting that Wonder Girls vs. AOA band battle after all.
