For the next installment of the timeline posts, here's the state of girl groups as they've battled across the years on the rankings chart. This covers every Power Ranking starting in September 2015, going all the way to the most recent update a few weeks back. As usual, I'll drop the image and then provide some brief thoughts after the jump. With this, the timeline series comes to an end for now.
There are some stories to see here. The most obvious is the domination of Girls' Generation that has unofficially ended, with Twice being the likely candidate to take over as #1. Conversely, you have AOA and Girl's Day who were sitting high up the mountain two short years ago but various reasons have dropped them down as time went by. Only Girl's Day has recovered, for the lack of a better word. The Wonder Girls appearances are bittersweet, since both their #10 placings were after their band reform / comeback and it's a shame they will never be higher. You also have the meteoric rise of the next generation Big 3 girl groups: Twice and Black Pink are enjoying much success and likely will for the foreseeable future. All in all a fun look back at the last two years of girl groups in Kpop - according to my opinions, of course. One of these days I should try to tackle a historic archive of these rankings for another timeline. See if I can stretch my imagination all the way back to 2009. That would be something incredible to see.
