[Misc] Thought Corner: Secret's Out

There's finally some fucking closure because Jieun has announced her departure from Secret. More importantly, this also means she is leaving TS Entertainment. They've been on hiatus since 2014 with the linked "I'm In Love" (which was a good release, hell I reviewed this song way back then) after Sunhwa got out of dodge quick, and as a group did absolutely nothing until the news today. What a waste and shame on TS, honestly. We were supposed to have a group comeback "sometime" last year but that never came to fruition for whatever reasons.

Sunhwa is the true winner because she jumped off the sinking ship as early as she could. Finished her idol career on a high note, so to speak. She's been in the acting business ever since and hasn't looked back. And why should she? The rest of the team has been locked away for the most part and while it's true they've had their own individual activities, they would clearly be better off chasing after their own ambitions under a different label had they left TS when Sunhwa did. With Jieun leaving, Hana and Hyosung need to follow suit as soon as possible and get outta there. Nothing good will come of staying around. Truthfully, all three of them can be successful solo acts. Jieun and Hyosung have already dipped their feet into these waters, each having at least one excellent release to their name: Jieun's "Don't Look At Me Like That" and Hyosung's "Find Me."

While it blows that Secret won't be coming back, we all knew this was inevitable since Sunhwa left and TS Entertainment can't be trusted. B.A.P went through that contract dispute and while Sonamoo haven't had anything disastrous befall them yet, their constant genre switching should be considered a crime anyway. In a best worst case scenario, this news merely confirms what we knew all along. No more need for the tiniest sliver of hope, and embrace the despair that comes with it. Other girl groups that are in limbo need to hurry up and do the same. Your move, After School / Pledis.
