#10. D.ana (+2)
Newsun has thrived in Sonamoo's latest hits, so you know D.ana is also enjoying the success too. Her deep voice brings power and counters Newsun's higher range. Since December of 2016 she has slowly and methodically climbed up the ladder. Now she sits in the top 10 for the first time. With Euijin swaying hearts from The Unit, I hope Sonamoo continues on the upward trend. Hell, if Black Pink continues to be locked in the dungeon, Sonamoo may end up being the house of best rapping duo for girl groups.
#9. Yeeun (+1)
Hyuna may be no more but her successor is alive and well. Er, it's not like Hyuna died or anything. You know what let's move on. Yeeun is one of CLC's starlets, and her light rapping has a little bite to it. "Black Dress" was a good addition to her library, and presumably a sign that future group tracks will be more of that than "Where Are You?" I'm a little concerned with their inconsistent history, Cube Entertainment, and the fact that they're debuting a new girl group with Soyeon headlining it (though the group name is tragic). In a perfect world though Yeeun and CLC will still do well.
#8. Exy (+1)
With her rap in "Dreams Come True," Exy has demonstrated that she is the most consistent of the new age rappers. Cosmic Girls have been getting healthy dosages of promotion since debut, and although their concepts change, Exy remains constant. Her rapping is delightful and maintains her stronger side even in the cuter songs. Compare this to some other rappers and she's basically a god. Despite all my raving of Exy, I couldn't put her any higher, because I don't think she's a top seven talent just yet.
#7. Mimi (--)
Even though Oh My Girl and Mimi's 2018 have been dull from the rapping department, I can't drop Mimi below the likes of Exy and Yeeun. Her ability and history powers her through the so-called inactivity. She is capable of packing quite the verbal punch which is different considering her group's strengths. Nonetheless Mimi can be deadly and is the driving force behind why I check out new OMG meterial. She can rest easy knowing her lucky #7 spot is safeguarded this time around, but if the next full group comeback doesn't have any fierce rap moments, Mimi will definitely start to fall in the rankings.
#6. Lisa (--)
Like Mimi, Lisa has not done much of anything since the last writeup but maintains her position because of her strong start. Quality defeats quantity in this instance. Lisa's got that smooth swagger which is extremely rare in rappers in general, let alone for girl group rappers. There's probably only four rappers out of the entire 30 who can claim that type of charisma, and most have been around for a while. Lisa is mighty impressive and only held back by YG's ineptitude. Thus high tier concludes, and funnily enough is bracketed by the Black Pink duo.
#5. Jimin (--)
Once again Jimin starts out the elite tier. The motherfucking top madam has become the driving force behind AOA since Choa left and will no doubt continue to do so in their May comeback. She's the only member to have released any solo music (with the aptly named "Hey") and honestly the only member really capable of doing such. I suppose that's only natural, for the girl who turned heads on Unpretty Rapstar and all. The others will have to hope this comeback can give them all a second wind.
#4. Miryo (--)
It really would be sacrilegious to lower Miryo's rank if Jimin stays put. Like I've said before, it's simply too crazy to even think about leaving her out of the top five. Plus Miryo did have some activity since last year, even if it was minor. "Can I See You Again" was a relaxing track (accompanied by a bizarre video but I digress) and signs should point towards a Brown Eyed Girls release or album later in the year. After all, this group and its members are long-standing veterans of the Kpop world. They won't be going away quietly.
#3. Yezi (-1)
The trend we're seeing is that most of the top dogs haven't been too productive lately, but their history and incredible talent let them rise up against the aspiring youngsters. She featured in Jung In's "Love Me" which like Miryo's point above, was a calm and soothing number - mostly thanks to Jung In, but Yezi held her own bringing her more laid-back style of rapping and singing. Yezi's future as a group rapper seems paralyzed with FIESTAR's horrific inactivity but she remains afloat. Praying for a solo comeback during 2018, if her group is doomed.
#2. Moonbyul (+1)
This has been the year of Mamamoo, so naturally Moonbyul has reaped quite the bounty from it. Even though their releases have pleasantly surprised with Moonbyul's singing voice, her rapping was not going to take a backseat, either. "Starry Night" and "Everyday" had solid mixtures of singing and rapping. And while two primary songs doesn't sound like a lot, if you've been paying attention, that is plenty more than the average member on this iteration of the rankings can claim. Of course, that's not gonna be enough to topple the throne from the #1 member.
#1. LE (--)
For the last two and a half years, LE has had the #1 spot on lockdown. Her aggressive style, swagger, and consistency all play a major role in helping her keep ahead of young and old talent alike. She's almost on another scale entirely. It'll take the new generation of rappers a few years of high-level play to match. Anyways, "Lady" brought retro swagger while "DDD" showed more of the traditional LE punch. With Solji unable to participate, it makes sense that she's taken over more as the main driving force behind EXID. I really wish I could attend KCON this year to watch the rap god live. But yeah, to nobody's surprise LE is still the #1 girl group rapper in Kpop.
