[Misc] Kpop's Deadliest Triplets

Kpop is full of strong pairings, but the next level above that is trios. When you have an established triplet, it's a three-way attack that not many groups have. In this fun and casual post I'll highlight the five best triplets in Kpop, along with a few honorable mentions. Just another piece that isn't a review to help break up the uniformity and hopefully get my brain thinking in new and creative ways for future writings. I also couldn't figure out a way to get a fancier cover image so forgive me on that one.

Honorable Mentions
Eunjung / Hyomin / Jiyeon - T-ARA
Kyuhyun / Ryeowook / Yesung - Super Junior
Seolhyun / Hyejeong / Yuna - AOA

5. Momo / Sana / Mina - Twice
Who would've ever imagined that a non-Korean triplet would not only make this list, but be responsible for a huge portion of their group's popularity? The only other foreign trio was EXO's Kris / Luhan / Tao and we all know how that turned out (sorry Lay). Anyways, Twice's Japanese triplets are a force to be reckoned with. After all, you don't get a set nickname of J-Trinity without reason. Their versatile visuals are the primary attraction, and niche vocals are what make this triplet particularly potent. A Twice without Momo, Mina, and Sana would be an inferior Twice indeed.

4. Rap Monster / Suga / J-Hope - BTS
Although there are more prolific pairs of rappers out there, BTS house the most talented rapping trio in all of Kpop. Suga and J-Hope have been growing consistently in their technique since debut, and Rap Monster is in a class of his own. I'll probably never write Boy Group Rapper Power Rankings, but Rap Mon would be for sure #3 at worst. These guys give BTS that brand of hip-hop swagger they've flaunted over the years. It's worth mentioning that Block B has their own three-headed monster in Zico, Kyung, and P.O that are altogether more skilled, but have been using P.O as a vocalist lately for reasons beyond my understanding, so they don't make the cut.

3. Taeyeon / Tiffany / Seohyun - Girls' Generation
There are in my mind, three different styles of triplets: vocalist triplets, rapper triplets, and miscellaneous triplets (any that isn't the former two). Girls' Generation's vocal line is perhaps the most well-known vocalist triplet in Kpop. After all they have their own subunit within SNSD. Tiffany and Taeyeon are an amazing combination together and while I very recently talked up Hyorin and Soyu, TaeNy is equally as good. Seohyun seems like only an addition to the TaeNy pair but she's more than capable of holding her own and has progressed the most out of the three since debut.

2. Solar / Wheein / Hwasa - Mamamoo
Kpop's most impressive singing triplets are the lovely ladies of Mamamoo. Each of them could easily compete for the main vocalist position in other groups, and are not short on talent in any way, shape, or form. Solar has an excellent balance of power and control, qualities befitting of the leader. Hwasa is charming with her husky lower register, and her charisma exudes confidence and swagger. Finally, Wheein acts as the intermediate between the other two in range, and together this trio are undeniably the most skilled vocalist triplet.

1. Hyorin / Soyu / Bora - Sistar
While the difference between the top 3 triplets on this list is fairly negligible, what separates Sistar's tandem from the rest is the spread-out talent. Soyu is known for her killer collaborations, Bora is a ferocious rapper, and Hyorin is an all-time great. Mamamoo have Moonbyul, but she is segmented off as a trio the same way Dasom is segmented off from Sistar (or was, anyway), and SNSD lack a good rapper to begin with. There really isn't much more I can say. Ultimately, the versatility of the Sistar triplet can't be reproduced by any other group, to the degree that they are constantly putting forth.
