[Review] SuperM - 100

Suppose it's time for another boy group review. It's been almost half a year since the last real one - not including revisits or throwbacks in that count. SuperM have been pretty active as far as promoting like the special group that they are, so that's cool that this isn't just a one time thing. Whether the song will live up to their hype though is another story.

I have no little reason to try and drag out this review longer than it should be so let's cut to the chase: "100" is meh. Not great, not terrible, just average. You already know what my biggest complaint is: there's too much English being used (poorly). It seemed like every other line was in English and as usual, that ruins the flow of the song. Not to mention the additional small bursts of "rap" thrown in (more on that later). I think this song would have been way better if it was split into two language variants. There's just too much goddamn English populating the track and it has never really worked for any Kpop song in history.

The video is the stereotypical bullshit you've come to expect. There are cars everywhere because SuperM are racers now. But if that's the case why is Taemin the wearing a cowboy hat? Furthermore why is he the only one wearing said cowboy hat? At least he's still doing great work in the vocals department. We've sung praises over his growth as an artist time and time again but you know what he deserves it every time. Baekhyun's high note looking like shades of TVXQ's Changmin haha.

The most disappointing part of "100" for me was the abysmal rapping. NCT's rappers are the only good ones in SME's boy group roster so to hear them come out completely flat was lame. Really unfortunate when the group is predicated on performance but the rapping aspect fell by the wayside in favor of all that shitty English usage. SuperM's comeback could've been something decent but they unfortunately squandered it with poor execution. At least some of the dance looks cool?
