Aaaaaand it wasn't. After one listen, I can confidently tell you that there is not much of "Kill This Love" that I like. Rushed opinions aside, it's easy for me to see why this song won't be growing on me. For starters, this shit is fucking boring. The chorus is one of those instrumental choruses where little to no singing is done. Whatever actual vocals exist are the generic "yeah yeah yeah's" and imitation gun noises. Verses and bridge alike share the trait of predominantly English lines that do the last note swerve / raise which is and always will be annoying. They're also doing their best Twice impression with the "we must kill this love" chant during the dance break (can you even call it that if they were singing during it?). What sucks the most is that Black Pink's bread and butter - their rapping - is so weak in here. Jennie's first rap is a feeble way to open up the track, and going into Lisa's lines was not significant improvement. The second combo English rap was better but nowhere near the level of their past raps.
Speaking of not living up to previous installments...then there's the choreography. Someone on reddit said that there were four choreographers for this comeback? If this is true they all need to be fired because this dance looks fucking lame. Like between this and "Ddu-du Ddu-du," you'd think Black Pink were all bad dancers or something. Even more frustrating is that this comes off the heels of Jennie's "Solo" which had actual choreography (and an interesting or entertaining one at that). Out of all the complaints I have for "Kill This Love," the choreography is the aspect that really grinds my gears. The combination of the lackluster dance moves and instrumental chorus leave much to be desired. And yeah the girls look amazing (for the most part, screw Jennie's bangs) but there are questionable outfits and even more questionable amounts of makeup being applied.
Unfortunately, "Kill This Love" is easily the worst Black Pink release I've ever seen. The rapping is subpar, the instrumental obnoxious, and the chorus doesn't exist. The choreography feels lazy and the MV - while gorgeous - is merely the standard box sets. Yes, their previous comeback was also bad (and had a way shittier title) but at least let Jennie shine and had a good bridge. "Kill This Love" falls face-first into the ground and with it, Black Pink's hopes of a good early 2019.
