"Bomb Bomb" is something from the traditional line of KARD songs: it's a heavy dance number with Latin roots and emphasis on the chorus and (dance) break. Compared to previous KARD title tracks though, the one thing that jumped out at me from "Bomb Bomb" is the sharp transitions. I felt that in past hits, the motion of each song was very easy with each member having long verses or parts. For "Bomb Bomb," the parts cut into each other sharply especially during the bridge and that makes for a jarring listen. The other perhaps more obvious jarring difference is that...weird noise during each chorus. I don't even know what that is, a trumpet? A very squeaky trumpet? Anyway it's pretty bad though there have been much worse in the history of Kpop. Personally, I'd rather have a lingering annoyance than a brief or shorter one that completely ruins the flow of the song.
While I'd love to say the whole team is killing it with visuals this comeback, J.Seph earned the stylist's wrath this time around. He makes some of those hairstyles work but his longer face does not pair well with him. Jiwoo and BM look fantastic in blonde and I'm sure all the fangirls will love the fact that he's shirtless in nearly half the video. SOMIN THOUGH. She is gorgeous from start to finish (even the obnoxiously overdone flower makeup outfit). Everyday I thank Korean Jesus for taking her out of April and putting her into KARD. Back to the audio, because the dudes in KARD are not proficient singers, I'd prefer they have straight raps instead of the rap-singing hybrid. Even a mediocre regular rap from these boys would be better than the rap-singing showing here. Somin and Jiwoo do what they can with the bridge before being interrupted by J.Seph and elsewhere they put up their standard vocal performance.
Kind of like CLC's "No," KARD went with the wrong approach for "Bomb Bomb." The visuals are undeniably flawless but that's not all there is to a comeback. The song has a disruptive flow to it between the short sections and awkward rap-singing. Whatever that noise is during the chorus could really damage the song in the future especially when past KARD releases have not had such an unwelcome addition. As it stands this is easily their second worst title track after "Ride On The Wind." Hmm perhaps a Best Of KARD post is due soon.
